There’s something about Mary
Mary King is a harpist who specializes in weddings and special events. She has been playing for 15 years and studied with Terry Coe, (Celtic harpist, now retired), Soranna Rus and Robert Coletta (a member of ‘Windharp’). She was a recipient of a 2018–2019 grant from the Southern New England apprentice program as a Master Celtic harpist; her apprentice was Elaine Killough from North Attleboro, Mass. She is also a recipient of a 2020–2021 grant from the Southern New England apprentice program as a Celtic harpist; her apprentice is Ellen Sheil.
She plays at many diverse events; from wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours, High teas, art shows, memorials, corporate events, bridal and baby showers, senior facilities to fairy and Celtic festivals & more. She is a founding member of ‘Celebrating Ireland in Story & Song’ a well known R.I. traditional Irish group that is celebrating their 20th year anniversary in 2019.
Both her parents came from Ireland and gave her a real love of Celtic music that has been her pathway to other genres of music. “I love every moment I play; the harp is a wonder – sweet, soulful yet also bursting in excitement with great rhythms and gorgeous melodies. I feel blessed to play at so many memorable times in peoples lives.”
‘If music be the food of love, play on’ (Shakespeare).
